Maldives

Referred to the Maldives and the Maldives, is an island nation in the Indian Ocean, formed by a double chain of 26 atolls oriented between north and south, off the Lakshadweep Islands, India, and between the Minicoy island of the Chagos Archipelago. It stands in the Sea Laccadive, about 700 kilometers (435 miles) southwest of Sri Lanka and the (250 miles) southwest of India. During the colonial era, he pointed out the Dutch in the country as "Eilanden Maldivische" in its documents, while "the Maldives" is the anglicised version of the name of the local used by the British, which later came to be written "Maldives."
